Wilderwood Graduation - December Edition
I went into this pretty apprehensive. We were not just working with one or two families this week, but four. With every end of the spectrum possible. There was NO WAY of predicting how this week was going to go. Stressed out parents+dogs+Kids does NOT = Happiness and Success.
But two days into this, I am so excited to see how the rest of the week goes. Not only do we have four dogs and four autistic children in the same room, but they all have an awesome set of parents.
Autism is a disorder, but its not like it takes over the child's body, they do have some reasoning power, and do know what they can and can't get away with. And most of them know they can and their parents will blame it on their Autism. This time we have families who recognize what's autism and what's the child, and are on top of it. Which makes it so much eaiser to work with them. They also have been champs at handling the dogs, and getting behaviors down pat.
One of the families brought their behavior therapist with them, and just watching her has really sparked some ideas in my mind... (Think school) But we'll see. Photography's my biggest passion right now, and I've been waiting for this, for a long long time.
Anyway Today was our first outing day with the dogs, A Restuarant, a store, and then too the park, to let the dogs blow off some steam. Since there are so many families, each of us trainers took one.
My family did have a few things we'll have to work on during the week, but over all, they handled it very well!!
Looking forward too tomorrow.
Photos later on this week.
