First of all, this past week has been a doozy. There are no other word to describe the hecticness, stress, exhaustion and emotionalness of this week. No words. Between our annual, week long, church "retreat" (here on our property), a full week at work, and all the dog news thrown my way, I ... there are just no words.
Those of you who follow us on Facebook, know that Monday morning my first guide dog puppy, Jake passed away from congestive heart failure. A shock to all, as he was a mere seven years old. The same day I was informed, that my eighth puppy was scheduled to arrive, in Nashville on Saturday. [Insert slight panic attack here] A few days later, I get a call from the main GDF office (always a scary sign) informing me that Midnight (Puppy #3) was being retired for breeding and is looking for a home, since her caretakers are unable to keep her. Would you like her? Its been a very overwhelming week, to say the least.
But back to my latest addition. Her name is Tally and she's a full, yellow lab, at 10 weeks old. She arrived around 3:30pm today via her Puppies in Flight attendant, in all her squishy labbiness. She's adorable guys.
Quick shout out to her flight attendant who not only flew from Arizona to New York but arrived in Nashville and drove Tally to me in Knoxville! :) I greatly appreciated it! :)
Upon arriving home, she had a greeting community of the stragglers left from our camp meeting, and soaked up all the attention, on her back, pink and black belly on full display. Needless to say she's already got a strong fan club. My dogs, however were so welcoming. Bubbles, at 15 .. didn't give her a second glance. She's been through this 20+ times before, what's another dog in her life. Nothing. She needed to pee. That was important. Texas was a bit more interested, but soon wandered off in favor of the fact there wasn't a bazillion people in our yard, and he had a perimeter to secure. Mulan, however was NOT pleased with this intruder. She was completely miffed about this young ... puppy... and handled herself very badly, so she was removed from the situation for a while. Tally handled it very well, and mostly ignored Mulan's shrieks of outrage.
We tried again later tonight, after some energy had been burned off, and the setting was quieter, and it went over a lot smoother. Mulan was still completely unsure of Tally, as she hasn't been around a dog this young before, seeings as she's only seven months herself ... so she was very decided to present herself as nonthreatening as possible. Which Tally interpreted as play and pounced, rolled and nipped happily on her, while Mulan lays like a limp fish.
It was quite amusing, as Mulan is normally the obnoxious one.
By the time I took Tals out for her final potty break, she was so worn out, she laid down on the concrete for a rest. Can't. Potty. Legs. Wont. Worzzzzzzzz
This is going to be a fun year. ;)
